Inclusive design strategy
The RIBA Plan of Work published by the RIBA in 2020 suggests in relation to the inclusive design strategy that:
‘The sooner that inclusion is considered the more effective and more cost effective it becomes. Alongside meeting Part M of the Building Regulations, buildings must also comply with the Equality Act, which gives legal protection from discrimination in the workplace and in wider society, on the grounds of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, also known as the protected characteristics. The Inclusive Design Strategy should consider all of these and be developed at the outset and implemented over the building’s useful life.’
